1

For the parent first

Name a circle, triangle and rectangle, then put the phone away.

2

Say to the child

Find three shapes outside. Skip anything you cannot see today.
3

How the game continues

  1. Start with a circle or oval.
  2. Then look for a triangle.
  3. Finish with a square or rectangle.

You are done when

When the hand becomes a fist, say: “Case closed, Detective!” and share a detective salute.

If you get stuck

If a shape is not visible, draw it in the air with a finger. It still counts.

More rounds

  • Find one tiny, one medium and one giant shape.
  • Look only for shapes in one colour.
  • The child names shapes and the adult spots them.

Safety

The child stays buckled in. The driver does not take part. Stop the activity at once if the child feels sick or uncomfortable.

Shape spotter

Close three detective cases. Fold down one of three fingers for every shape you spot.
