For the parent first

A passenger starts the story with one sentence and puts the phone away.

Say to the child

We will build a story one sentence at a time. You choose the hero.

How the game continues

  1. Choose the hero.
  2. The adult says the first sentence.
  3. Take turns adding one sentence.
  4. When you want to finish, the child gives the final sentence.

You are done when

The child gives the final sentence, then say together: “The end!”

If you get stuck

If you get stuck, choose one helper: an animal, a vehicle or a magical object.

More rounds

  • Swap storyteller roles.
  • Use no more than five words per sentence.
  • Tell the same story with a silly ending.

Safety

The child stays buckled in. The driver does not take part. Stop the activity at once if the child feels sick or uncomfortable.
