Demonstrate once on your own hand, then put the phone away.

Say to the child

“Use one finger to slowly trace around each finger from thumb to little finger.”

How the game continues

  1. Start at the thumb.
  2. Trace up and down each finger.
  3. At the end, count all five fingers.

You are done when

After the little finger, count all five and finish. Repeat only if the child wants.

If you get stuck

Do not force it. Trace only the thumb and index finger, or stop the activity.

More rounds

  • While seated, try tracing with your eyes closed, only if it feels comfortable.
  • Swap hands and trace the fingers of the other hand.
  • Quietly name each finger as you trace it.

Safety

Keep the hand relaxed and do not press on the fingers. Stop if uncomfortable.
