For the parent first

Play the sounds together. The adult demonstrates each sound and moves to the next after three taps or rubs.

Say to the child

“We will play drizzle, rain and a storm together. After the storm, you give the stop signal.”

How the game continues

  1. Rub your hands for drizzle.
  2. Clap for rain.
  3. Tap your thighs gently for a storm.
  4. Signal when the orchestra should stop.

You are done when

After the third sound, the child signals stop and everyone goes quiet. Another performance is optional.

If you get stuck

If a sound feels unpleasant, make it quieter or skip it. Play the storm only by gently tapping your thighs.

More rounds

  • The child cues the sounds and only the adult plays. Each sound lasts until the child gives the next cue.
  • Play all three sounds as quietly as possible.
  • Play the sounds in reverse: storm, rain, drizzle.

Safety

The adult clears the floor. The child taps their thighs gently and does not climb on furniture.
