Safe-room hunt
Hold up four fingers. Point to something soft, round and blue, plus a book or soft toy. Fold one finger after each find. Bring me your fist.
For the parent first
Choose one safe room for the child to stay in. The child holds up four fingers and folds one after every find. When only a fist remains, you can share a fist bump. Then say: One more round, but find different objects. Put the phone away.
Say to the child
“Hold up four fingers. Point to something soft, round and blue, plus a book or soft toy. Fold one finger after each find. Bring me your fist.”
How the game continues
- Hold up four fingers.
- Point to something soft and something round. Fold one finger after each find.
- Point to something blue and a book or soft toy. Fold one finger after each find.
- Bring your fist to the adult. If you want, repeat the same four tasks with different objects.
You are done when
When only a fist remains, the child brings it to the adult. The adult can offer a fist bump.
If you get stuck
If the child cannot find an object, they say so and fold the finger anyway. Searching still counts.
More rounds
- Second round: repeat the same four tasks, but every object must be different.
- The child gives the adult four treasures to find and counts them on the adult's fingers.
- The child chooses one colour and finds four things in that colour.
Safety
The adult chooses a safe area. The child does not open or taste anything and does not climb.
